New Delhi: South African veteran batsman AB de Villiers has seen a new ray of hope in the young generation of the Indian Test team. De Villiers said that the upcoming five-Test series against England will be a "new beginning" for India, and it is time for the young players to take the responsibility.

He specifically pointed to 25-year-old Shubman Gill and said that he has the ability to lead the team in this changing phase. India's Test team is now entering a new era. After the retirement of experienced players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, now the entire responsibility is on the shoulders of the young players.

Not only this, but the absence of veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and injured fast bowler Mohammed Shami, who retired during the Australia tour, can also make the balance of the team challenging, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

'Gill will have to play a big role.'

De Villiers, while talking to reporters on the sidelines of a social organization's program in Mumbai, said, "Yes, now the time has come for young players to come forward. Shubman Gill should take responsibility. There is a lot of talent in India, and credit for this also goes to the IPL, which has given a big platform to the youth at a young age."

He further said that this new cycle of Test cricket will prove to be decisive for India in many ways. To succeed in the conditions of England, the players will not only have to be technically strong but also have to be very strong mentally.

Agnipariksha for the youth

De Villiers believes that the tour of England will be like an "Agnipariksha" for the Indian youth team. He said, "The pressure of playing in England is very high. The pitches are challenging, and the conditions there have always been difficult for foreign players. But India does not lack talent. If these young players believe in themselves, they can achieve something special."

Virat Kohli will be missed: De Villiers

De Villiers gave an emotional reaction to Virat Kohli's retirement from Test cricket. He said, "Kohli listened to his heart. The contribution he has made to cricket in the last few years is extraordinary. We will still see him on the cricket field, but his absence in Test cricket will definitely be missed. He is leaving a strong legacy in this format."

Eyes now on the new generation.

Now when India's Test team will take the field without its two most trusted pillars, all eyes will be on the new leadership and the performance of the young players. Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rajat Patidar, Arshdeep Singh, and other young faces will now get a golden opportunity to prove themselves.
