Dhoni might be a part of Indian team again
New Delhi: Ahead of next year's T20 World Cup, a report has claimed that the BCCI has given a big offer to former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni to become the mentor of Team India. Dhoni played this role during the tenure of head coach Ravi Shastri for a limited time during the T20 World Cup 2021. But according to the report, Dhoni is unlikely to accept this offer, especially when Gautam Gambhir is the head coach of the team.
A BCCI source said that Dhoni has been offered mentorship again. The board believes that Dhoni's guidance can be extremely important for the new generation of Indian cricket. However, the relationship between Dhoni and Gambhir has always been somewhat sour and sweet, due to which Dhoni is less likely to accept this offer.

Dhoni led the Indian team to its first T20 World Cup in 2007 under his captaincy. He was also made the mentor of the team before the 2021 T20 World Cup, but the team could not reach the semi-finals. Australia won the T20 World Cup that year.
Some reports also say that Dhoni may retire after IPL 2026. The T20 World Cup 2026 is near and the IPL will also be held only after that. If Dhoni becomes a mentor before the World Cup, it will be a big boost for the young players. But with Gambhir being in the team setup, Dhoni seems less likely to accept this offer, as the ideas of both may not match.
MS Dhoni contribution to Indian cricket is huge, especially during his captaincy in the first T20 World Cup in 2007. In the final of that World Cup, India registered a historic victory by defeating Pakistan by 5 runs. Then in 2014 also, under Dhoni's captaincy, India managed to reach the final of the T20 World Cup, although that time India had to face defeat against Sri Lanka.
