Pakistan Post Mammoth Total Despite Late Wickets

Batting first after India skipper Ayush Mhatre opted to field, Pakistan piled on 347 for 8 in their allotted 50 overs. Minhas anchored the innings with authority, finding boundaries at will and keeping the scoring rate consistently high. Hussain provided early support before falling soon after his half-century, while late wickets by India offered brief relief. However, Pakistan’s strong middle-order contributions ensured the total remained well beyond reach.

Henil Patel was among the Indian bowlers to find success late in the innings, dismissing Hamza Zahoor to spark a minor slowdown, but the damage had already been done.

India’s Chase Unravels Early

India’s response never gained momentum as Pakistan’s bowlers applied relentless pressure from the outset. The chase spiralled quickly, with India losing five wickets inside the first 10 overs. Vaibhav Suryavanshi briefly raised hopes with a confident start, showing fearless intent before being dismissed for 26 following a tense on-field exchange.

A dramatic collapse followed, as India lost seven wickets in quick succession, leaving the batting line-up in complete disarray. Regular breakthroughs ensured there was no chance of recovery, and India were eventually bowled out for 156.

From Tournament Dominance to Final-Day Collapse

The defeat came as a shock given India’s dominant run through the tournament. Led by Mhatre, India went unbeaten in the group stage, including a convincing win over Pakistan, and cruised past Sri Lanka in the semifinals. However, the final proved a different story, as Pakistan peaked at the right moment.
