Deoria: A distressing case has emerged from the Bhatpar Rani tehsil area of Deoria district, where an elderly woman has been running from pillar to post for justice for years.
Fatima Begum, wife of Iqbal Ahmad and a resident of Sohanpur under Bankata police station limits, reached the District Magistrate’s office with a walking stick and a written complaint in hand to narrate her ordeal before newly appointed District Magistrate Maksudan Hulgi.
The elderly woman alleged that some influential members of her own family are trying to illegally capture her land and house through intimidation and force. According to Fatima Begum, she had earlier approached the police station, tehsil authorities, and senior district officials several times, but received only assurances without any concrete action.
Speaking emotionally, she said, “Officials listen to my complaints, but instead of action, I only get another date.”
Local villagers said tensions over the disputed property have escalated several times in the past, but the concerned authorities allegedly failed to intervene effectively. Residents have demanded a fair investigation and justice for the elderly woman. They said if helpless senior citizens do not get justice even at this age, public faith in the administration will weaken further.
Taking serious note of the matter, District Magistrate Maksudan Hulgi assured the woman of proper action and directed concerned officials to immediately investigate the case and take strict action against anyone found guilty.
