For New Zealand, James Neesham was the standout bowler, picking up 3/46.
Chasing 256, New Zealand needed a strong start but India’s bowlers quickly seized control. Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah removed key top-order batters including Finn Allen and Rachin Ravindra inside the powerplay, putting the chase under immediate pressure. The required run rate kept climbing as wickets continued to fall.
New Zealand briefly found hope through a counterattack from Tim Seifert, who scored a quick 52 with several powerful boundaries and sixes.
However, the turning point came when Varun Chakaravarthy dismissed Seifert, halting New Zealand’s only major resistance and leaving the middle order exposed.
India’s bowling attack tightened its grip in the death overs, led by a masterclass from Jasprit Bumrah. Using clever slower balls and pinpoint yorkers, Bumrah removed key lower-order players including Mitchell Santner and Matt Henry, finishing with four wickets.
The final wicket fell when Abhishek Sharma dismissed Jacob Duffy, caught by Tilak Varma, sealing India’s emphatic victory.
From a record-breaking powerplay to a clinical bowling performance, India dominated every phase of the final. The 96-run victory capped a spectacular campaign and sparked massive celebrations in Ahmedabad as India lifted the T20 World Cup trophy in style.
