Who Is Nitesh Tiwari? The IIT Graduate Directing Bollywood’s Biggest Film, Ramayana
Nitish Tiwari, born in Madhya Pradesh and graduated from IIT Bombay, is all set for the release of its next big film, Ramayana. Tiwari has won several awards, including National Film Awards.

Mumbai: The trailer of the film Ramayana has finally been launched. The upcoming film has been directed by a renowned filmmaker, Nitesh Tiwari, who is known for blending emotional storytelling with strong messaging. He has given some of the National Award-winning and iconic films such as Dangal, Chhichhore, and Chillar Party.
Nitish Tiwari Early Life
Tiwari was born on 23rd May, 1973, in Itarsi, Madhya Pradesh. He studied Metallurgy and Materials Science engineering at IIT Bombay. Before starting his career in the film industry, Tiwari worked with advertising agencies.
Filmmaking Career of Nitish Tiwari
Tiwari kicked off his directorial career with the iconic film Chillar Party in 2011; his very first co-directed film won the National Film Award for Best Children’s Film.
In 2016, he directed Dangal, starring Aamir Khan, Sanya Malhotra, and Fatima Sana Shaikh as leads. The film was based on the lives of popular wrestlers Geeta and Babita Phogat. The film turned out to be a massive blockbuster in India and abroad. The film became one of the highest-grossing Indian films ever and achieved outstanding success in China. Tiwari won the Filmfare Award for Best Director for Dangal too.
Next to Dangal, he made another National Award-winning film, Chhichhore, in 2019. The cast of the film includes Late Sushant Singh Rajput, Shraddha Kapoor, Varun Sharma, and Tahir Raj Bhasin, etc. The film won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.
He also directed popular films such as Bhoothnath Returns in 2014 and Bawaal in 2023.
Tiwari’s latest project, Ramayana, features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravan. The movie is made on a grand scale with visual effects by DNEG. The trailer of the film is released on 30 July, 2026.
