The India established a strong position by declaring its first innings at a mammoth 518/5, thanks to centuries from Shubman Gill (129 not out) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (175). Useful contributions from Dhruv Jurel (44) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (43) further strengthened India's grip on the match.
At stumps on the second day, West Indies were 140/4, still trailing by 378 runs. Tegnarine Chanderpaul (34) and Alick Athanaze (41) struggled for a while, but India's spinners, especially Ravindra Jadeja, consistently took wickets at crucial moments despite the relatively flat pitch.
