Chennai: India delivered a powerful batting performance in the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, posting a massive total of 256 for 4 against Zimbabwe in Chennai. The score marked the highest team total of the tournament so far.

The match is being played at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, where Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza won the toss and opted to bowl first. However, India’s aggressive batting quickly turned the decision into a difficult one for the visitors.

Strong Opening Sets the Tone

India began the innings on an attacking note with Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma providing a solid start. The duo added 48 runs for the opening wicket before Samson was dismissed for 24 after being caught by Ryan Burl off the bowling of Blessing Muzarabani.

Abhishek continued the momentum alongside Ishan Kishan, forming a quick 72-run partnership for the second wicket. Abhishek reached his half-century in just 26 balls and eventually scored 55 off 30 deliveries, hitting four boundaries and four sixes before being dismissed by Tinotenda Maposa.

Middle Order Fires in Final Overs

India’s middle order ensured the scoring rate never slowed. Captain Suryakumar Yadav played a quick cameo, smashing 33 runs off just 13 balls with three fours and two sixes before being dismissed by Richard Ngarava.

The late surge came from Hardik Pandya, who remained unbeaten on 50, finishing the innings strongly with aggressive hitting. Tilak Varma also contributed significantly with an unbeaten 44, helping India push the score to an imposing 256 for four in 20 overs.

Zimbabwe Face Massive Chase

Chasing 257 in a high-pressure Super 8 match will be a major challenge for Zimbabwe. While the pitch in Chennai has been favourable for batting, India’s bowling attack will aim to capitalise on the scoreboard pressure.
