Chennai: In a season defined by fearless batting, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) etched their name into the history books by chasing down a formidable target of 210 against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). On a night where the "Yellow Army" expected their fortress to hold, Punjab’s batters dismantled the bowling attack with surgical precision and raw power, securing their second consecutive win of the 2026 season.
The tone for the chase was set by a literal whirlwind. Impact Sub Priyansh Arya produced one of the most destructive cameos in IPL history, bludgeoning 39 runs off just 11 deliveries. Scoring at a staggering strike rate of 354.55, Arya’s three boundaries and four towering sixes propelled Punjab to the fastest 50-run mark in IPL history against CSK, reaching the milestone in just 3.2 overs.
Alongside him, Prabhsimran Singh (43 off 34) ensured the momentum never dipped, punishing Anshul Kamboj and Matt Henry during a relentless powerplay charge.
After Matt Henry finally removed the dangerous Arya, the game entered a tactical phase. CSK's spinners, led by Noor Ahmad, attempted to dry up the runs. A moment of brilliance in the field—a coordinated run-out by Sarfaraz Khan and Ruturaj Gaikwad—sent Prabhsimran back to the dugout and threatened a collapse.
However, young Cooper Connolly (36 off 22) showed immense maturity, utilizing the lap and cut shots to keep the required rate within touching distance while the surface began to grip and slow.
The defining partnership of the night belonged to skipper Shreyas Iyer and Nehal Wadhera. Iyer, who has historically struggled against leg-spin, flipped the script by launching Rahul Chahar for two massive sixes in the 13th over.
His 50 off 29 balls was a masterclass in pacing; he anchored the middle overs while ensuring the boundary count never dropped. Even though Iyer fell to Kamboj in the 17th over after a dropped chance by Matt Henry, he had already broken the back of the 210-run target.
With the equation reduced to a run-a-ball in the final two overs, the experienced Marcus Stoinis and the reliable Shashank Singh made short work of the remaining runs. Despite a double-wicket over from Kamboj that briefly gave CSK hope, Shashank’s composure and a finishing boundary from Stoinis sealed the 5-wicket victory with 8 balls to spare.
For Chennai, the loss was a bitter pill despite Ayush Mhatre’s record-breaking 73 (43), as their death-over execution faltered under the lights of their own home ground.
