New Delhi: Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retired from T20 and Test cricket, but they are still playing in the ODI format. Fans are eagerly waiting for both of them to return to the field and it is believed that they will take part in the Australia tour in October. There are many discussions about the ODI career of Rohit and Kohli, on which former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has given his opinion.

There is a lot of discussion on the presence of Rohit-Kohli in the ODI World Cup 2027. Irfan says that the biggest challenge for both will be to keep playing consistently and maintain fitness. Irfan told that both Kohli and Rohit are very conscious about their fitness. He said, “I have spoken to Rohit and he is very serious about fitness. I am sure Kohli will also be doing the same, as his practice in England showed. This enthusiasm is very important from the player’s point of view, which is a positive sign for him.” There are also speculations about the ODI career of both of them after the Australia tour. It is being said that this tour will be the last of their ODI career as head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar can decide on this. But Irfan expressed hope that both will continue playing even after the Australia series.

Irfan said, “I think this should happen and I hope this thing would have been clear in the conversation. Both Gambhir and Agarkar must have made it clear. Playing regular cricket will be the biggest challenge. If you talk about 2027, then that challenge will come there because at the moment they are not playing continuously for Team India. Suppose there will be a big gap after three matches against Australia and IPL, then their continuity will be broken.”

Thus, the decision on the ODI future of Rohit and Kohli will depend on their fitness and availability for regular play.
