New Delhi: The 2026 T20 World Cup has begun, and India is hosting the tournament. As the defending champions, Team India is considered a major contender for the title. However, since the first match, the team has been facing concerns about the fitness of its players. After Jasprit Bumrah and Harshit Rana, young opener Abhishek Sharma also fell ill.
On February 7, India played its first match against the USA. Batting first, Team India scored 161 runs in 20 overs. However, during the USA innings, Abhishek Sharma's health suddenly deteriorated. Although he was not injured during the match, he had to leave the field. Abhishek was not seen with the other players in the dugout, which surprised everyone.

After the match, captain Suryakumar Yadav revealed in a presentation that Abhishek had suddenly fallen ill. Similarly, fast bowler Mohammed Siraj revealed that Abhishek had developed stomach pains, which forced him to leave the field. Substitute fielder Sanju Samson was fielded in his place.
Siraj also confirmed that Abhishek will be fully fit for the next match. The young opener was dismissed after facing just one ball in his first ICC senior tournament innings. Although his debut was not a good one, he is eager to showcase his strength in the next match against Namibia.
Fitness has become a major challenge for Team India. After Bumrah, Abhishek Sharma's illness has now increased the team's concerns. Despite this, the captain and senior players say that this problem is temporary and the team will field at full strength in the next match.
