New Delhi: Charles Leclerc has extended his association with Ferrari, reinforcing a relationship that has defined much of his Formula 1 career. The Monegasque driver described Ferrari as more than a team, calling it a family and expressing his determination to continue pursuing his Formula 1 world championship dream with the iconic Italian outfit.

Although Ferrari has not disclosed the exact length of the new agreement, reports suggest the deal secures Leclerc’s future beyond the 2028 season.

A journey built on loyalty and growth

Leclerc’s connection with Ferrari dates back to 2016 when he joined the team’s driver academy. After impressing during his rookie Formula 1 season with Sauber, he earned a promotion to Ferrari in 2019 and quickly established himself as one of the sport’s leading talents.

Over the years, he has collected eight Grand Prix victories and 52 podium finishes, becoming one of Ferrari’s most successful modern-era drivers. He is also second only to Michael Schumacher in terms of Formula 1 starts for the Scuderia.

Championship success remains the target

Despite strong performances, the ultimate goal remains elusive for both Leclerc and Ferrari. The team last secured the Drivers’ Championship in 2007 and the Constructors’ Championship in 2008.

While Ferrari has shown signs of improvement this season, it continues to trail championship rivals Mercedes. Even so, Leclerc’s faith in the project remains unchanged.

Strong relationships within the team

A key factor behind Leclerc’s commitment is his long-standing relationship with Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur. The pair have worked together across multiple stages of Leclerc’s racing career.

The driver is also known to share close ties with Ferrari’s senior leadership and enjoys immense support from the passionate Tifosi fanbase.

Stability for Ferrari’s future

Leclerc’s renewal provides Ferrari with long-term stability as it seeks to close the gap to the front of the grid. With Lewis Hamilton also contracted through at least 2027, the team now has a settled driver lineup and can focus on improving its car and power unit development.

For Leclerc, the mission remains clear: bringing championship glory back to Ferrari and achieving Formula 1’s biggest prize with the team he considers home.
