London: Linda Noskova claimed her maiden Grand Slam title after overcoming fellow Czech Karolina Muchova in a dramatic three-set Wimbledon women’s singles final.

The 21-year-old ninth seed secured a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 victory on Centre Court, surviving the disappointment of wasting five championship points before eventually sealing the contest on her sixth opportunity.

Noskova Makes Dominant Start

Noskova began the historic all-Czech final with powerful groundstrokes and aggressive returns. She capitalised on Muchova’s nervous opening to claim two service breaks and comfortably take the first set 6-2.

The young Czech continued to dictate play in the second set and moved within touching distance of the title. However, Muchova produced a remarkable fightback after saving multiple match points.

The 10th seed recovered from 2-5 down, won five consecutive games and forced the match into a deciding set.

Sixth Match Point Seals the Trophy

Noskova regained her composure in the final set and secured an early break. Muchova had opportunities to respond but failed to convert her chances as Noskova maintained control.

The ninth seed finally completed the victory with an unreturnable serve, becoming the youngest Wimbledon women’s champion since Petra Kvitova in 2011.

Czech Success at Wimbledon Continues

Noskova became the third Czech woman in four editions to win the Wimbledon title, following Marketa Vondrousova in 2023 and Barbora Krejcikova in 2024.

Her victory also ensured that Wimbledon crowned a first-time women’s singles champion for the ninth successive edition.

During an emotional trophy ceremony, Noskova thanked her family and dedicated the achievement to her late mother. Muchova, who suffered her second defeat in a Grand Slam final, vowed to continue fighting for a maiden major trophy.
