China: Death toll rises to 40 in power plant collapse in Fengcheng

Beijing/ 24 November 2016. Death toll rises to 40 in an under construction power plant collapse in Fengcheng, in the central province of Jiangxi in China on Thursday.

The platform of a cooling tower dashed to the ground in the early hours, trapping an unknown number of people beneath it. Rescue operations are still under way.

The tower turned in to a heap of concrete slabs and steel girders on the ground.

According to reports industrial accidents are quite common in China due to laxity appropriate of safety measures.
