Delhi police files case on AI-generated video targeting PM Modi mother
New Delhi: Delhi Police has registered an FIR against the Congress party and Congress IT cell over an AI video made on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother. The case was registered at Delhi's North Avenue police station after a complaint was filed by the BJP. The FIR number is 0050 and action has been taken under various sections of the BNS.
On 10 September, Bihar Congress posted an AI-generated video showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother. The BJP termed the video as "disgusting" and said that it insulted all the mothers and sisters of the country. The BJP called it an insult to democratic institutions and an act of spreading hatred in the society.

The complaint has sought registration of a case under sections 356 (defamation), 336 (forgery of electronic record), 351 (dissemination of material to disturb peace) of the Indian Penal Code as well as section 66D of the Information Technology Act 2000 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. The BJP said that this video has insulted the honor of women and motherhood, and the public has been confused by using fake content for political gain.

The BJP has urged the police to immediately register an FIR in this matter and start an investigation and remove this video from the social media platform. Also, legal action should be taken against the culprits by finding out technical information like IP logs. BJP said that strict action is necessary to protect the dignity of the Prime Minister and his mother.
This case gives rise to an important discussion about the misuse of AI and digital technology. Amid growing tensions between political parties, preventing the spread of fake videos and misinformation on social media has now become a major challenge. This FIR sends a message that strict action will be taken against those who spread defamation and misinformation on digital platforms. All eyes are now on the results of the police investigation.
