Ahmedabad / 22 May 2016. To counter increasing man-lion conflict, Gujarat government had ordered to encage the man eaters jeopardizing peopleâs life. Ten out of 13 lions have been encaged so far. In last three months, three people have lost their life to these big cats.
Pug mark identification to nab maneaters
A pug mark identification exam would be conducted to identify the man eaters among those by checking traces of human hair, bone and remains of clothes present in their bodies.
âAfter spotting, the man-eaters would be sent to Sakkarbaug Zoo in Junagadh where such kinds of lions are kept and others would be relocated to a safer zone," according to T Karuppasamy, Deputy Conservator of Forest (DCF), Dhari-East range of Gir Wildlife Sanctuary.
Jayesh Solanki, a 11-year-old boy succumbed after being attacked by an Asiatic lioness in Ambardi village of Amreli district on May 19. Earlier, Labhuben D Solanki, 50 year old and Jinabhai Makwana, 60 year old were also killed by lions. The government has initiated to award compensation of Rs.2.5 lakh for the kins of the victims.
