Srinagar: The strategic Srinagar-Jammu national highway remained closed for the second consecutive day on Wednesday after shooting of stones and landslides blocked the road at Banihal, officials said. A huge landslide at Shalgadi on Tuesday blocked the road link connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country.

“Jammu-Srinagar National highway is still closed. Restoration work is underway”, a traffic police tweet said on Wednesday. The authorities have pressed into service men and machinery to clear the debris from the road to make it traffic worth, they added. The traffic police have also issued an advisory for the people not to travel on National Highway till the restoration work is completed.

Hundreds of vehicles including the trucks carrying essentials for the Kashmir valley are stranded at various points of the highway. (UNI)
