Amethi: Union Minister and local BJP MP Smriti Irani on Friday attacked the Gandhi family and said that even though Amethi people elected the Congress MP for most of the time, the district remained a laggard in terms of development.

After inaugurating the CT Scan and Diagnostic Center at a government hospital here on the second day of her two-day tour, Irani said that today the people do not have to go to Lucknow for these facilities. Now a lot of medical investigation is done in Amethi.

She said the country is moving forward under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and added that Common people are getting all the facilities in Amethi.

Taking a jibe at former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, she said, "an aviation company is working on the ground in Amethi. When Rahul Gandhi used to be an MP from here, his party-led (UPA) government was there at the centre.

Even then, the people of Amethi did not get any facility. The Congress government was in power for so many days after independence, yet the people of Amethi did not get its benefits," she said.

Taking a dig at SP as well, the Union Minister said that when the SP government was in power in Uttar Pradesh, the Congress used to cooperate with them. "Despite that, the people of Amethi did not get facilities like Medical College, a bypass or an over bridge," Irani said.

After inaugurating the CT Scan and Diagnostic Center at Jagdishpur CHC, she also distributed Ayushman cards. The people of the area complained and demanded redressal of their problems from Irani. She took immediate cognizance of those and the officers present there were directed to redress the problems.
