Woman found dead in drain in Chennai; Murder suspected

Chennai: A woman died after falling into a rainwater drain in Veerapandi Nagar, Chennai. Initial reports said that the drain was not properly closed and was covered with a level board, which broke and the woman’s leg got stuck in it and she died. But the Chennai Municipal Corporation has given a new clarification that it was not a rainwater drain, but a sediment tank. They also said that the mouth and hands of the deceased woman were tied. In the pictures, it seems that the woman’s scarf was stuck in her hand, but it is not believed to be tied.

Before this incident, a few days ago, a sanitation worker sister also died due to electric shock from stagnant water while working. The work of rainwater drains has been going on in Chennai for the last four years. During this time, the minister and mayor of Chennai are repeatedly saying that only one percent of the work has been completed, but no one knows when this work will be completed.

Statement of BJP State President

The BJP State President has made a big allegation against the DMK government in this case. He said that “The DMK government is only engaged in telling stories and changing its words, but is not showing any interest in accepting its mistakes and finding a solution.”

He said that “After summer, the earth absorbs rainwater, but why does the DMK government, which is pasting stickers like ‘Rain did not stop because we did rainwater drain work’, not take responsibility for the incidents caused by its incomplete projects?”

He also said that “Chief Minister MK Stalin took information about Chennai’s rain from Germany, which is only a pretense and advertisement.”

The BJP leader has demanded the DMK government to identify the deceased woman immediately and take appropriate action and ensure the safety of the public at all the places where rainwater drain work is going on.

Former BJP State President Anamalai also held the DMK government responsible in this matter and criticized it in other matters as well.

These incidents show that incomplete and unsafe works of storm water drains are posing a threat to the lives of the general public, and the government needs to take immediate and concrete action.
