New Delhi: India is rapidly moving towards the next major phase of digital connectivity. Amid the expansion of 5G services, the government has now established a clear roadmap for 6G technology. Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia recently stated that India aims to launch 6G services by 2030. This could position the country as a global leader in internet technology.

Major Changes in Speed and Performance

6G technology is expected to be 10 to 100 times faster than 5G. It will enable speeds of up to 1 terabyte per second (Tbps) and microsecond latency. This means that large files and 4K videos can be downloaded in a matter of seconds. Data transfer delays will be virtually eliminated, making the internet experience even smoother and more real-time.

World of AI and Holograms

6G will not be limited to just faster internet; it will lay the foundation for a new digital world. This will promote technologies like real-time 3D hologram calls, self-driving cars, and smart cities. Combined with artificial intelligence, this will create intelligent networks where machines are able to make their own decisions. Remote surgery in healthcare and virtual classrooms in education could become commonplace.

India 6G Vision and Investments

The government has taken concrete steps in this direction under the Bharat 6G Vision. More than 100 projects have been approved, and approximately ₹271 crore is being invested. This funding is being provided to startups, research institutions, and industries through the Telecom Technology Development Fund, enabling India to develop this technology on its own.

India's Participation in Global Standards

India is also playing an active role in setting global standards for 6G. To this end, it is collaborating with international organizations such as the International Telecommunication Union and 3GPP. The government aims for India to contribute to at least 10% of global patents and standards.

Spectrum Roadmap Prepared

The government has also prepared a spectrum roadmap for 6G from 2025 to 2035. It will be implemented in three phases, providing a continuous boost to research and development.

Overall, 6G technology could usher in a new chapter in India's digital revolution, not only increasing internet speeds but also transforming the entire digital world.
