Swami Avimukteshwaranand hits back at Mela authority notice
According to him, a saint’s real strength lies in truth, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to ethical values, which guide society even in times of injustice.
One of the most heartbreaking moments of the interview came when Swami Avimukteshwaranand recalled seeing his disciple during the protest. He described noticing the disciple’s swollen eyes and silent tears, prompting him to ask whether anyone had assaulted him.
The disciple initially denied being harmed. However, it later emerged that the disciple had indeed been beaten by the police during the movement.
The Shankaracharya said he was deeply hurt upon learning the truth. He explained that the disciple chose to hide his suffering to avoid escalation or controversy. According to Swami Avimukteshwaranand, this act reflected the highest ideals of the saintly tradition—placing social harmony above personal pain.
He described this restraint as a powerful moral example, even in the face of injustice.
Condemning the incident strongly, Swami Avimukteshwaranand said that assaulting a peaceful saint or disciple who neither resists nor incites violence is the gravest form of injustice. He pointed out what he called a contradiction—on one hand, authorities speak of respecting saints, while on the other, police action is taken against them.
The Shankaracharya launched a direct attack on the Yogi Adityanath government, questioning whether there is any space left for dissent in Uttar Pradesh. He warned that suppressing voices of disagreement reflects an authoritarian mindset, not a democratic one.
Swami Avimukteshwaranand also addressed the Prime Minister, urging the country’s top leadership to reflect on how saints are being treated under the current system. He appealed for sensitivity, humility, and accountability from those in power.
Concluding the interview, the Shankaracharya made it clear that the saintly community would not be intimidated. He warned that the movement against injustice would continue and could intensify if necessary. The interview has already sparked intense political debate and drawn national attention.
