India, Nepal pact to boost border security, curb smuggling

An important online meeting of the Indo-Nepal Cross Border Joint Security Coordination Committee was held with the aim of strengthening the security system of Maharajganj, controlling smuggling and other criminal activities and promoting mutual cooperation.

Maharajganj: An important online meeting of the Indo-Nepal Cross Border Joint Security Coordination Committee was held with the aim of strengthening the security system of Maharajganj, controlling smuggling and other criminal activities, and promoting mutual cooperation. Senior officials of Maharajganj and Siddharthnagar districts participated in this meeting from India, while senior administrative officials of Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, and Nawalparasi districts were present from Nepal.

According to the Dynamite News correspondent, the meeting discussed in detail the serious problems like maintaining law and order on the border, strengthening of border markers, beautification of no-man's land, human trafficking, and smuggling of drugs, liquor, fertilizers, and other items.

Key suggestions and demands from India

Addressing the meeting, the District Magistrate of Maharajganj said that along with maintaining peace on the border, cross-border legal trade should be encouraged. He urged strict action against those involved in illegal trade and talked about conducting verification campaigns in border villages.

In view of the month of Shravan, an appeal was made to make special security arrangements on the roads coming inside the Nepal border to strengthen the security of the devotees during the Kanwar Yatra and other religious journeys.

The District Magistrate also stressed the need for beautification of no-man's land, cleaning of the Mahav drain, protection of embankments, and regular sharing of information about the water level in rivers so that disasters like floods can be dealt with in time.

Active role of police administration

Superintendent of Police Somendra Meena asked the Nepal administration to increase joint patrolling and surveillance on the border to prevent border crimes. He also urged the Nepal administration to take necessary action on the list of wanted criminals shared by India.

Mutual consent of both the countries

In the meeting, the officials of both countries agreed on maintaining law and order on the border, effective control over smuggling, and mutual exchange of sensitive information. Also, a proposal was passed to hold such meetings regularly in the future.

Mutual harmony and respect

At the end of the meeting, District Magistrate Santosh Kumar Sharma expressed his gratitude to the Rupandehi District Administration and said that the Government of India and the Indian people have deep affinity towards Nepal and Nepalese citizens. He assured further strengthening of cooperation and harmony between the two countries.

The Chief Development Officer of Rupandehi also expressed his gratitude to the officials of both countries and said that Nepal will continue to cooperate.

DFO Niranjan Surve Rajendra, Commandant of the 66th and 22nd Battalions; Additional District Magistrate (V/R) Dr. Prashant Kumar; SDM Nautanwa; SDM Nichlaul; CO Nautanwa; and other officials were present in the meeting.
