Bengaluru: In recent weeks, widespread flight disruptions across India have left thousands of travellers stranded or delayed due to challenges in roster adjustments under new government regulations. Among those affected were Medha Kshirsagar from Hubballi and Sangama Das from Odisha, whose wedding reception was upended when their IndiGo flights were delayed and eventually cancelled. The couple, both software engineers, had planned to travel from Bhubaneswar to Bengaluru and onwards to Hubballi on December second. As a result, they were forced to attend their own reception virtually, missing out on the traditional celebration.

Instamart Steps In With Surprise Celebration

Turning disappointment into delight, Swiggy Instamart collaborated with wedding creator Himanshu Shaadi Card to arrange a surprise street baraat for the couple. An Instagram video captured the magical moment as the newlyweds were invited downstairs to find a full cultural spectacle awaiting them outside their Bengaluru home. The event recreated key elements of a traditional baraat, bringing the festive spirit to their doorstep.

Cultural Spectacle In The Street

The surprise baraat included live band members playing dhols and trumpets, while friends and delivery agents joined in dancing to the music. A wedding car adorned with a banner reading “Sangram Weds Medha" was placed in the middle of the street. Flowers were showered, sweets were exchanged, and the couple experienced a one-of-a-kind celebration that made up for the reception they had missed. The gesture turned an unfortunate situation into a heartwarming memory, delighting both the couple and onlookers.

Social Media Celebrates The Moment

The Instagram video quickly went viral, spreading smiles across the internet. Users praised Instamart’s initiative, with one commenting, “Yeh wali duniya mujhe pasand hai (I love this kind of world),” while another wrote, “Kudos to Instamart for going way beyond.” The unexpected baraat also prompted playful reactions online, with people joking about the concept of “ordering a baraat.” The incident highlighted how creative interventions can turn setbacks into memorable experiences.

Virtual Reception And Travel Challenges

The original wedding reception was scheduled at Gujarat Bhavan in Hubballi. However, due to the IndiGo flight cancellations, the couple had no choice but to attend virtually. Both Medha and Sangama had planned a complex travel itinerary involving multiple flights to reach the venue on time, but last-minute disruptions made it impossible to celebrate in person.

Bridging Technology And Tradition

The unique intervention by Instamart demonstrates how technology and logistics can bridge gaps in traditional celebrations. Delivery services and creative wedding planners can now play an unexpected role in making up for travel or logistical challenges, blending modern solutions with cultural rituals. This approach not only saved the day for Medha and Sangama but also inspired others facing similar disruptions.

A Memorable Twist To Wedding Celebrations

While the IndiGo crisis disrupted the couple’s plans, the surprise street baraat provided a heartwarming alternative. The event exemplifies how creative thinking and community support can turn adversity into joy. For Medha and Sangama, the memory of dancing to live music on their doorstep, surrounded by friends, family, and delivery agents, became a story they will cherish forever.
