Harley-Davidson’s Sprint to launch this year
New Delhi: Harley-Davidson is once again trying to enter the market for lower-priced motorcycles. As per media reports, this was brought up during a recent investor call. This means the company is developing a new budget-friendly bike in its high-end twin-cylinder lineup. Harley-Davidson tried entering the market with the Street 750 earlier, but it didn't meet people's expectations.
The new Harley-Davidson Sprint will use the Harley-Davidson Sprint platform as its foundation. More new models are planned to come to this platform in the future. This new bike is made especially for young riders who are learning to ride. Right now, Harley-Davidson is seen as the preferred choice by most riders who are over 40 years old. Harley-Davidson did something similar with the Hunter 350, and people really liked it.
The Harley-Davidson Sprint is likely to cost about $6000, which is around Rs 5 lakh, and might be unveiled at the 2025 EICMA show. Harley-Davidson tried entering the lower-priced market with the Street 750 a few years back. This bike was made specifically for new marketplaces such as India and was built right here in India.
At first, the bike got a positive reaction. Soon, customers started to complain because of the product's problems. The main issue with this bike was how badly the front brake worked. Many riders spoke out about the problem, but the company didn’t pay much attention to it. Because of that, sales started to go down. Harley introduced a new model named Street Rod to deal with the situation, but it also didn't work in India.
The Harley-Davidson Street 750 has a 749cc liquid-cooled V-twin engine that powers the bike. It makes 57 horsepower and 59 Newton-meters of torque. It came with a 6-speed gear box. The bike could go as fast as 180 kilometers per hour and it weighed 229 kilograms. The main issue with this model was its liquid-cooled engine.
Older Harley customers liked engines that used air cooling. That's why he wasn't too happy with the new engine. That's why the Street 750 had to be taken off the market. Now, hopefully, Harley-Davidson has learned from the mistake with the Street 750 through Sprint, and now the company is trying to regain the trust of younger people by working with Sprint again. Made with the right price, great quality, and focusing on what customers want, this bike might be a fresh start for Harley.
