Mitsubishi Pajero Teaser
New Delhi: Mitsubishi has officially ended years of speculation by confirming the return of the Pajero, one of the most celebrated names in the SUV segment. The Japanese automaker released the first teaser of the upcoming model, which is scheduled to make its global debut in 2026.
The company also revealed that the SUV will continue to wear the Montero name in select international markets. This move has sparked expectations that regions where the Montero badge previously existed could once again receive the flagship off-roader.
Unlike the outgoing generation, the new Pajero will be underpinned by the same ladder-frame platform used by Mitsubishi’s Triton pickup truck. While this architecture shares its foundation with the Pajero Sport, Mitsubishi is positioning the upcoming SUV as a distinct and more premium offering.
The company says the model will feature a specially developed cabin and unique suspension tuning at both ends. These changes are aimed at delivering strong off-road capability while maintaining a refined and comfortable driving experience.
The first official teaser offers a glimpse of the SUV’s front-end styling. The image showcases distinctive T-shaped LED daytime running lights framing the Mitsubishi emblem. Although the lighting arrangement appears different from a prototype seen earlier this year, the variation could be due to camouflage, trim differences, or design refinements made during development.
Previous spy images indicate the new Pajero will retain a bold, upright stance with muscular wheel arches and traditional SUV proportions. The design has drawn comparisons with established off-road icons, reinforcing its rugged identity.
Mitsubishi describes the vehicle as a “cross-country SUV” and confirms it will sit above the Outlander in the brand’s global lineup, making it the company’s flagship utility vehicle.
First introduced in 1982, the Pajero became renowned for blending off-road performance with passenger-car comfort. Across four generations, the SUV recorded more than 3.25 million sales in over 170 countries and achieved 12 victories in the Dakar Rally, cementing its place among the world’s most successful off-road vehicles.
