Millions of vehicle owners get relief
Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Transport Department has taken an important and relieving decision. The department has decided to waive lakhs of e-challans issued between 2017 and 2021. This move has directly brought great relief to lakhs of vehicle owners. Under this decision, now these challans will be shown as “Disposed - Abated” or “Closed - Time-Bar” on the portal and all the barriers related to it will be removed.
According to the Transport Department, a total of 30,52,090 e-challans were issued between 2017 and 2021. Of these, 12,93,013 challans were pending while 17,59,077 have already been disposed of. Now the pending challans which were pending in the court or the time limit had expired in the office will be closed administratively. After the challan is waived, the obstructions related to fitness, permit, vehicle transfer and HSRP will also be removed. However, challans related to tax will remain outside the scope of this relief.

If your challan is between 2017 to 2021 and is still pending or any block is visible on the portal, then after a month go to the transport portal and check the status of the challan.
If the matter was pending in the court, the challan will appear as "Disposed - Abated" and all the obstructions will be removed automatically.
This relief will not apply in tax related matters. Such cases will be disposed of only under tax laws.

This decision is only for those challans which were pending in the court till 31 December 2021 or whose time limit has expired. Cases related to serious crime, accident or IPC will remain outside the scope of this relief. This step has been taken to ensure compliance with the law, relieve the public from unnecessary challans and related obstructions, make the services available on time and make the entire process transparent.
The transport department has also informed that the disposal of all pending challans will be shown on the portal within the next 30 days. For this, the progress report will be updated on the dashboard every week. Necessary changes are being made in the NIC portal so that the process remains transparent and secure. Note that tax liabilities, fines deposited and court orders will remain unchanged.
This big decision has brought relief to lakhs of vehicle owners and they will be able to get their services on time without any obstruction. This step is being considered an important part of the public welfare policy of the UP government.
