Patna: The Bihar government has launched the Chief Minister's Women's Employment Scheme to empower women economically and make them self-reliant.

Launched by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, this scheme encourages women to stand on their own feet and start small businesses. Under this scheme, the government provides women with financial assistance of ₹10,000 to help them start their own businesses.

Who will benefit from this scheme?

This scheme is only for women in Bihar who are associated with Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Its objective is to empower women in both rural and urban areas equally.

So far, the government has released five instalments under this scheme, while the sixth installment was released on October 31st.

According to government data, more than one crore women have benefited from this scheme so far, making it one of the most successful women's empowerment schemes in Bihar.

Main Objective of the Scheme

The main objective of the Chief Minister's Women's Employment Scheme is to provide women with self-employment opportunities so that they can create their own means of livelihood instead of depending on others.

The government provides financial assistance for investment in 18 types of small businesses.The first installment of ₹10,000 is sent directly to the woman's bank account.

If a beneficiary woman continues her business for six months, she may also be provided with additional assistance of up to ₹2 lakh.

How Village Women Can Apply

Women living in rural areas who are associated with Jeevika Self-Help Groups can submit their application forms to their Village Organization.

For this, the Village Organization will hold a special meeting where applications from interested women will be collected.
If a woman is not yet associated with any self-help group, she will first have to become a member of that group to avail the benefits of the scheme.

Online Application Facility for Urban Women

Women living in cities can apply online by visiting the website www.brlps.in. The documents required for the application include:

  • Aadhaar card
  • Residence certificate
  • Copy of bank passbook
  • Passport-size photograph
  • Self-help group membership form
  • Business information form

The application process will be complete after all the documents are correctly filled out and submitted.
