Patna: A major corruption case has come to light in Bihar, which has exposed the government system. When the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) raided the house of Vinod Kumar Rai, a Superintendent Engineer of the Rural Works Department, shocking facts came to light. Undeclared assets worth about Rs 100 crore have been detected in this raid, which is much more than his legitimate income.

The most surprising thing about this case is that when the EOU team arrived for the raid, Vinod Rai and his wife, Babli Rai, tried to destroy the evidence by burning notes overnight. His wife burnt so many notes that even the drains of the house got clogged.

It is estimated that they burnt about Rs 2-3 crore, but still a lot of notes and documents were saved. In the raid, Rs 40 lakh in cash, burnt notes worth Rs 20 lakh, jewelry worth Rs 10 lakh, luxury watches worth Rs 6 lakh, and land papers worth crores of rupees were recovered.

Vinod Rai was in charge of the Rural Works Department in Madhubani and Sitamarhi districts, where work is done on projects like road and bridge construction. It is believed that he accumulated this wealth by taking huge bribes from contractors. 15 bank accounts, 18 land documents, and several insurance policies have been found in his name.

Now this matter has become even more serious as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also intervened in it. ED will investigate the allegations of money laundering. The help of the Forensic Science Lab (FSL) is also being taken to investigate the burnt notes. A case of destruction of evidence has also been registered against Vinod Rai's wife, Babli Rai.

This case exposes the deep roots of corruption in Bihar and proves that some officials have become millionaires overnight by misusing the government system. This incident has also raised questions on the anti-corruption claims of the Nitish government. Now the entire matter will be thoroughly investigated, and it is possible that more big revelations will be made.
