New Delhi: Summers are around the corner, and if you do not get chilled water, then the condition becomes terrible. But have you ever thought, where did the Indian Kings get the ice during summer? How did they use it? Let's know everything on Dynamite News.

In summer, the number of tourists visiting mountainous areas significantly rises as people venture into the mountains to escape the warmth of the season.

But think for once, In the age of our forebears, when there was no refrigeration technology, what methods did they employ to formulate ice for themselves?

It is arduous to believe, but our ancestors transported ice from the Northern Himalayas: Kashmir, Himachal, and Garhwal to their dwellings.

The ice was transported during winter and preserved for summer. There is mention of the transportation of ice from Kashmir to Delhi during the time of Mughal emperors Humayun and Akbar. Mughals had built special routes along the banks of the Yamuna River near Delhi to bring ice.

Ice houses were made to preserve ice for a long duration. These were deep pits or cellars with thick and insulated walls. Ice was stored in them wrapped in straw, ash, or cloth to prevent it from melting. Mughal emperors built such icehouses in Delhi, Agra, and Lahore.
