Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has executed this year's largest administrative reshuffle to streamline and enhance the efficiency of the police force. According to the order issued by the state government, 56 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers have been transferred and assigned new postings with immediate effect.

This extensive reshuffle covers senior officers across Greater Chennai Police, district police units, police commissionerates, special branches, and police headquarters.

The government's primary objective is to fill critical vacancies, strengthen policing at the district level, and streamline the operations of vital wings such as Cyber ​​Crime, Vigilance, and the Anti-Corruption Branch.

Key Appointments in Greater Chennai Police

Several significant changes have taken place in Chennai as part of this reshuffle. E.S. Uma, who had been awaiting a posting order for some time, has been entrusted with the key responsibility of Deputy Inspector General (Headquarters) of Greater Chennai Police. Meanwhile, K.S. Balla Krishnan, previously serving as Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters) for Greater Chennai Police, has been appointed as the Deputy Commissioner of the Chennai Cyber ​​Crime Cell. S. Selvaraj, the Deputy Commissioner of Central Crime Branch-1, has been given charge of Chennai High Court security.

Additionally, S. Arockiam has been appointed as Superintendent of Police/Assistant Inspector General of Police for the Social Justice and Human Rights Wing. Meanwhile, G. Vanitha, the Deputy Commissioner for the Crimes Against Women and Children Wing, has been transferred to the post of Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters and Administration) at the Avadi Commissionerate.

Reshuffle of Police Chiefs Across Several Districts

This administrative reshuffle has significantly impacted the postings of district police chiefs (Superintendents of Police - SPs). S. Kuthalingam, previously the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for T. Nagar, has been appointed as the new SP of Salem district, while Gautam Goyal has been transferred from Salem to serve as the SP of Virudhunagar. Thiruvallur SP Vivekanand Shukla has been handed charge of Cuddalore district, and Villupuram SP VV Sai Praneeth has been sent to Thiruvallur to replace him.

GS Anita has been appointed as the new SP of Krishnagiri, a key district in western Tamil Nadu. Additionally, Tiruppur SP Yadav Girish Ashok has been transferred to Namakkal, while Srishti Singh, the DCP of Trichy City (South), has been appointed as the new SP of Tiruppur district.

Strengthening of Vigilance and Cyber ​​Wings

The government has also taken significant steps to strengthen specialized police wings. Sujit Kumar, formerly the SP of Nagapattinam, has been appointed as the SP of the Chennai Cyber ​​Crime Division-1, a move expected to bolster the team's capabilities on the cyber front. Regarding the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing, G. Nagojyothi, Principal of the Chennai Police Training College, has been appointed as the SP of the Special Investigation Cell under the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption.

Meanwhile, P. Mahendran, who was previously serving in this wing, has been appointed as the DCP of Salem City (South). The government has also prioritized officers who had been on the 'waiting list' for a long time, including G. Gopi (DCP, Flower Bazaar) and several others.
