New Delhi: The central government has given a major boost to the gaming and content creation sector in Budget 2026. Presenting the budget in Parliament, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated that India will no longer be merely a consumer of technology, but a technology leader. The government's focus is on growth, digital skills, and strengthening the creator economy.
The budget announced that AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics) content creator labs will be established in 1,500 secondary schools and 500 students across the country. These labs will provide students with advanced training in game design, animation, visual effects, and digital content production. The government aims to develop creative and technical skills in youth from an early age.

The government has set a target of creating over 1 million jobs through gaming and related creative industries. To achieve this, special emphasis will be placed on training, practical learning, and industry-relevant skill development. The budget also proposes the creation of five university townships along industry corridors. Additionally, new National Design Schools will be established to strengthen design education. This will support areas such as creative design, game art, UI/UX, and digital media.

The Finance Minister stated that artificial intelligence (AI) and new digital technologies will play a key role in the growth of the content and gaming sectors.
