Delhi Court grants transit remand for Luthra brothers in Goa club fire case

In a major development in the Goa nightclub fire case that killed 25 people, owners Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra have been arrested. The duo was deported from Thailand and detained at Delhi airport before being handed over to Goa Police on transit remand.

New Delhi: A major development has emerged in the case of the devastating fire that broke out on December 6th at the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Arpora, Goa, which tragically claimed the lives of 25 people. The nightclub owners, Gaurav Luthra and Saurabh Luthra, have been arrested by the Goa Police. They were deported from Thailand and brought back to India, where they were taken into custody at Delhi Airport.

Both brothers in Goa Police custody

After obtaining a transit remand from the court, the Goa Police took the two accused to Goa. There, they will be produced before a local court and taken into police custody for questioning. Goa Director General of Police Alok Kumar confirmed the arrests, stating that a thorough investigation is underway and strict action will be taken against all those responsible.

Arrested at Delhi Airport

The Goa Police arrested the two brothers at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Tuesday afternoon around 2:30 PM. They were then taken to Indira Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital in Dwarka for a medical examination. After the medical examination, they were produced before the Patiala House Court, which granted the Goa Police a two-day transit remand.

Accused fled to Thailand after the incident

Chaos erupted at the nightclub on the night of December 6th after the fire broke out. The accident claimed 25 lives and left many seriously injured. It is alleged that immediately after the incident, while the police and fire brigade were engaged in rescue and relief operations, the Luthra brothers planned their escape to Thailand within an hour. They traveled to Mumbai by car with club employees and from there, took an IndiGo flight to Phuket, Thailand at 5:30 AM.

Action taken with the help of Interpol

Upon receiving the information, the Goa Police initiated action at the international level. On December 7th, a lookout circular was issued against Saurabh Luthra, Gaurav Luthra, and other accused. Following this, on December 8th, a Blue Corner Notice was issued through Interpol to initiate the process of bringing them back to India.

Detained in Thailand, Repatriated to India

On December 11, Thai police, acting on a request from Indian security agencies, detained the two brothers and informed the Indian authorities. Following the completion of legal procedures, they were deported to India. Meanwhile, the Luthra brothers also attempted to secure anticipatory bail, but the court rejected their plea.

Several Arrests Made So Far

In this case, Goa police have so far arrested a total of eight people, including the Luthra brothers. Investigating agencies say that the disregard for safety standards and negligence at the nightclub may have been a major cause of this tragic incident.
