Phagwara: A tragic road accident near the village of Chhichhowal on the Phillaur-Nawanshahr highway claimed the lives of three women, all belonging to a single family, and left four others, including a child, seriously injured today.

The collision occurred between an autorickshaw and a speeding Xylo car, reportedly coming from the wrong side of the road.

According to eyewitnesses and the injured autorickshaw driver, he was transporting passengers from the village of Jhandapeer to Phillaur when the accident occurred.

As he approached Chhichhowal, a high-speed Xylo car coming from the Phillaur side allegedly veered onto the wrong lane and struck the autorickshaw head-on.

Deceased Identified

The deceased have been identified as Rakhi, Sunita, and Manjit Kaur. All three women were residents of Kadiana village. Disturbingly, the victims included a mother-in-law and her two daughters-in-law from the same family.

Injured People

The injured include Nirmal Singh (autorickshaw driver), Ranjit Kaur, Mukhtiar Singh and Amar Chand, who were admitted in Phillaur civil hospital.

Following the accident, police arrived at the scene and took the bodies into custody for post-mortem examination.

Cops are investigating the cause and have booked the car driver for reckless and negligent driving.

Another Incident

Three young persons were killed while two others sustained critical injuries when their car split apart during a catastrophic collision near Phulumbri Mathpati on Sulod Road, officials confirmed.

The victims included two grandsons of prominent local resident Haji Abdul Jabbar Seth Bagwan, aged approximately 19 and 20 years.

The deceased were identified as sons of Sheikh Asif (Abdul Jabbar's elder son) and Sheikh Jamil (second son), alongside the grandson of Ghiyas Khan from Watch City Chowk.

Two surviving occupants from Motiwala Nagar remain hospitalised – one at private Icon Hospital with severe leg trauma and internal injuries, the other at MGM Hospital. Preliminary reports indicate the group had travelled without family permission to dine at Phulumbri Dhaba when the crash occurred.

The vehicle's violent disintegration upon impact suggests extreme collision forces, though authorities have yet to determine the exact cause. Motiwala Nagar residents expressed profound grief as investigators examined the wreckage.

No official statement has been released regarding potential contributing factors to the fatal incident.
