Midnight Explosion on Railway Track in Punjab’s Sirhind Triggers Security Alert
Chandigarh: A massive explosion rocked the Sirhind area of Punjab's Fatehgarh Sahib district late Friday night, spreading panic throughout the region. The blast occurred on the railway line where a freight train was being targeted. The intensity of the blast was so great that 3-4 feet of the railway track was completely damaged. Initial investigations suggest the use of a powerful explosive such as RDX.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 11 p.m. near the Khanpur Gate in Sirhind. A freight train was passing on the newly constructed railway line, specifically designed for freight transportation. As the engine approached the gate, a powerful explosion occurred. The explosion was so powerful that the front portion of the engine was severely damaged and the freight train derailed.
The driver of the freight train was seriously injured in the blast, suffering serious head and body injuries. With the help of local people and railway personnel, the driver was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared his condition stable. According to doctors, timely treatment saved his life.
According to sources, the railway line where the explosion occurred was still undergoing trial work. The freight train did not contain any hazardous or special materials, which averted a major accident. Officials say that if a passenger train had been passing by at the same time, there could have been significant loss of life and property.
The explosion caused panic in the entire area. Locals rushed to the scene and assisted with rescue operations. Police immediately cordoned off the area, and a forensic team was called in to investigate. Railway officials also arrived at the scene, and assessments of track repairs began.
Initial reports suggest the incident was a well-planned conspiracy. Such an incident ahead of January 26th has raised concerns among security agencies. Punjab Police say the role of terrorist organizations cannot be ruled out. A thorough investigation is underway to determine how the explosives were planted and who was behind them. Official confirmation is awaited.
