Bhopal: The family of Twisha Sharma has approached the Madhya Pradesh High Court seeking cancellation of the anticipatory bail granted to retired judge Giribala Singh in the alleged dowry death case that has drawn widespread public attention.

Twisha Sharma, a 33-year-old resident of Noida, died on May 12, months after marrying Bhopal-based Samarth Singh in December 2025. Following her death, police registered an FIR under provisions related to cruelty and harassment after her family accused her husband and in-laws of mental torture, emotional abuse and dowry-related harassment.

Family Challenges Bail Order

Advocate Ankur Pandey, appearing for Twisha’s family, said the anticipatory bail granted to Giribala Singh was contrary to established legal principles. According to the family’s legal team, the High Court is being approached to challenge the relief granted earlier.

The family has argued that the seriousness of the allegations and the nature of the investigation required stricter judicial scrutiny before bail was granted.

Meanwhile, Samarth Singh remains absconding. Police authorities have reportedly initiated steps for a lookout notice and announced a cash reward for information leading to his arrest.

Demand for Second Post-Mortem

The case has also seen renewed demands for a second post-mortem examination. Twisha Sharma’s family has expressed dissatisfaction with aspects of the initial investigation and autopsy process.

According to the family’s counsel, a Judicial Magistrate recently rejected the request to shift the body to Delhi for another post-mortem, citing jurisdictional limitations. However, the court reportedly directed local authorities to examine whether preservation facilities were available in Madhya Pradesh.

Questions Raised Over Investigation

The legal team has also raised concerns regarding call detail records presented during the anticipatory bail hearing. The family suspects that influential individuals may have attempted to interfere with the investigation after the incident.

Authorities have already constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. Separately, the Madhya Pradesh government has ordered an inquiry into Giribala Singh’s conduct following the registration of the criminal case.
