Mumbai: Renowned screenwriter Salim Khan continues to recuperate in Lilavati Hospital here in Mumbai. Salman Khan's father, Salim Khan, was brought to the hospital after his health deteriorated. He was admitted to Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre due to swelling in his body.

Javed Akhtar, long time co-screenwriter of Salim Khan, visited his friend in the hospital on Wednesday.

Salim-Javed revolutionised Hindi cinema in the 1970s with classics such as Seeta Aur Geeta, Zanjeer, Deewaar, Sholay, Trishul and Kranti.

Together, they worked on 24 films between 1971 and 1987. Out of these 24 movies, 20 were commercially blockbuster. They became the highest-paid writers of their time. However, their iconic partnership ended after 12 years due unknown reasons (?).

Sanjay Dutt also reached Lilavati Hospital to meet veteran screenwriter Salim Khan and enquire about his health. Dutt, who shares a close bond with the Khan family, has often spoken about his strong relationship with Salman Khan, saying he considers himself a brother to the actor.

Salim Khan's daughter Alvira Khan, son-in-law Atul Agnihotri, and grandson Ayan Agnihotri to visit the renowned screenwriter.

Salim Khan's adopted daughter Arpita Khan's husband, actor Aayush Sharma, was also seen at the hospital.

Late Tuesday night, actor Sanjay Dutt also visited the veteran screenwriter at the hospital.

The Salim–Javed Legacy

During the 1970s, Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar emerged as one of the most powerful screenwriting partnerships in Indian cinema.

Known collectively as Salim–Javed, the duo crafted a series of blockbuster films that left a lasting imprint on Hindi cinema, including Sholay, Deewar, Trishul, Don, and Kaala Patthar.

Their storytelling transformed mainstream Hindi films, introducing sharper dialogue, morally complex characters, and socially charged narratives.

Most notably, their scripts played a pivotal role in shaping Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic “Angry Young Man” image - a persona that came to define an era of Bollywood cinema.

However, the celebrated partnership came to an end in the early 1980s due to creative and personal disagreements. For many years, both maintained silence about the reasons behind their split.

Despite parting ways, each carved out a successful independent path. Salim Khan continued working in story development and film production, while Javed Akhtar earned immense recognition as a lyricist and writer, becoming one of the most respected voices in the industry.

In later years, their interactions grew warmer, and both spoke more candidly about their collaboration and its far-reaching impact.

Their journey - from creative synergy to separation - was revisited in the Amazon Prime Video documentary series Angry Young Men, which explored their partnership, differences, and enduring contribution to Hindi cinema.
