

The government has announced that 10 bighas of land have been allocated by the state government to construct a memorial at the funeral site as tribute to the legendary singer.
The 52-year-old singer was cremated with full state honours and 21-gun salute.
Sonapur: Assam bids a tearful farewell to its beloved icon, legendary singer and composer Zubeen Garg, who was laid to rest today with full state honours at Kamarkuchi NC village near Sonapur, close to Guwahati. Garg’s untimely passing has left the state in deep sorrow. Zubeen Garg's sister Palme, along with Arun Garg and Rahul Gautam Sarma, lit the pyre. The 52-year-old singer was cremated with full state honours and 21-gun salute.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was present at the funeral. He wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "The last time that I got to see #BelovedZubeen. From now on he will live in Assam’s soul, mind, and hearts..." Earlier, Sarma, along with his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, visited the late singer's residence in Guwahati to offer condolences to the family.

Authorities in Singapore are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accidental death of the singer. A video circulating on social media shows the singer swimming without a life jacket. Initially, reports suggested that the 52-year-old was involved in a scuba diving accident.
However, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma later clarified that Zubeen Garg died while swimming without a life jacket. He also mentioned that lifeguards had asked the singer to wear safety gear before the incident.
The died during a sea outing in Singapore on September 19.

Assam Minister and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Working President Keshab Mahanta announced that 10 bighas of land have been allocated by the state government to construct a memorial at the funeral site as tribute to the legendary singer.
During the ceremony, Garg’s beloved song Mayabini echoed through the crematorium grounds. As the music played, friends, fans, and well-wishers joined in, singing along through their tears- a heartfelt tribute to the artist who had touched so many lives with his music.
