New Delhi: South-East Asian countries Hong Kong, Singapore, China and Thailand have recently seen a rise in Covid-19 cases.
One of the main reasons for the surge in corona cases in this region is said to be the decrease in infection-fighting antibodies.
This trend can also be seen in India, although the situation in India is under control so far.
Recently Bollywood actress Shilpa Shirodkar and IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad star batsman Travis Head have tested positive for Covid.
These incidents have again increased vigilance regarding Covid. 53 new cases of Covid were reported in Mumbai on Monday.
Although there were no serious cases, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has appealed to citizens to remain vigilant and seek medical advice immediately if symptoms appear.
Health Ministry convened a meeting
The Health Ministry, realizing the seriousness of the situation, convened a high-level review meeting.
The meeting was chaired by the Director General of Health Services (DGHS), attended by experts from the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Emergency Medical Relief (EMR) Division, Disaster Management Cell, ICMR and major hospitals of the Central Government.
The meeting concluded that India's COVID situation is under control at the moment and there is no need to panic.
Total active COVID-19 cases in India
According to government data, the total number of active COVID-19 cases in India as of May 19, 2025 is only 257, which can be considered negligible compared to the huge population of the country.
Most of these cases are mild and do not require hospitalization.
Trend of variants found in India
States like Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Maharashtra are certainly seeing a slight increase, but experts believe that this is local and limited impact. At present, no more lethal trend has been seen in the variants found in India.
Government advised to remain vigilant
The government has increased surveillance and advised all citizens to get tested if symptoms appear, wear masks and maintain hand hygiene.
Given the prepared health system and vaccination coverage to deal with the epidemic, India is ready to deal with any possible wave of Covid.
