No Ebola case reported in India so far, says Health Minister JP Nadda; reviews preparedness

New Delhi: Union Health Minister J P Nadda on Monday reviewed the country’s preparedness and surveillance measures amid growing international concern over the Ebola outbreak, while confirming that no case of Ebola Virus Disease has been reported in India so far.

During a high-level meeting with senior officials of the Union Health Ministry, Nadda assessed the readiness of health agencies and directed authorities to keep all preventive systems fully operational and alert.

Screening Intensified At Entry Points

According to an official statement, the health minister instructed officials to maintain strict Ebola screening arrangements at all points of entry into the country, including airports, seaports and land border crossings.

The Centre has also increased coordination between multiple departments and agencies to ensure rapid response capabilities in case of any suspected infection.

Following Nadda’s directions, the Union Health Secretary chaired a joint review meeting involving officials from various ministries and public health agencies to strengthen preparedness measures.

ICMR, NCDC Asked To Stay Fully Prepared

The Health Minister directed the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to ensure that surveillance, testing and tracking systems remain fully prepared at all times.

Officials have been asked to closely monitor developments related to the outbreak and maintain quick-response mechanisms for early detection and isolation if required.

Authorities said surveillance at ports of entry is being continuously reviewed to minimise the risk of any imported infection.

Global Concern Over Ebola Outbreak

The precautionary measures come after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Ebola outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has also categorised the situation as a Public Health Emergency of Continental Security (PHECS), prompting countries worldwide to increase monitoring and preparedness.

Health officials in India said coordination among agencies remains active and emergency response protocols are in place.

The government has also advised authorities to maintain vigilance and ensure uninterrupted monitoring systems while public health agencies continue reviewing the evolving global situation related to the outbreak. At present, officials have reiterated that India has not recorded any confirmed Ebola infection.
