New Delhi: Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, the Strait of Hormuz has once again become the focal point of global concern. Iran is currently formulating a specific "Safe Corridor" plan to facilitate the secure passage of vessels, allowing certain ships to transit in a controlled manner.

Why Are Indian Ships Stranded?

Approximately 22 Indian ships are currently stranded in this region, 20 of which are considered critical to the country's energy supply. The Indian government is in continuous dialogue with Iran to ensure the safe extraction of these vessels.

How is Entry Being Granted?

According to reports, some ships have been granted permission to transit through a route designated by Iran. This route runs close to the Iranian coastline, allowing its Navy and port authorities to inspect the vessels.

Interestingly, one oil tanker reportedly had to pay approximately $2 million (roughly ₹16 crore) to secure passage.

Why Did the Situation Deteriorate?

The situation has become even more critical following recent attacks on the South Pars Gas Field. Consequently, several ships have currently been issued "hold position" orders.

Iran has made it clear that it will not permit ships linked to the United States or Israel to transit through this route.

What Will Be the Global Impact?

This waterway is one of the world's most critical oil transit routes. Any disruption here has a direct impact on oil supplies and prices. As such, this crisis has become a matter of concern not only for India but for the entire world.

If tensions continue to escalate, the movement of ships could become even more challenging. Currently, all nations are closely monitoring the situation, and diplomatic efforts remain underway.
