Amaravati: Amid ongoing scrutiny over alleged adulteration in ghee used for the famed Tirupati Laddu, the Andhra Pradesh government has announced the introduction of advanced French technology to ensure strict quality control.

State Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav said modern “E-Tongue” and “E-Nose” machines will be installed at Tirumala to detect even minor deterioration in ghee supplied for preparing the sacred offering.

The move comes at a time when the Tirupati Laddu ghee controversy is under monitoring by the Supreme Court, prompting the state to strengthen its food safety mechanisms.

Rs 25-Crore State-of-the-Art Food Laboratory

The government is setting up a state-of-the-art food laboratory in Tirumala at an estimated cost of Rs 25 crore. The facility is currently 90 percent complete and is expected to begin operations next month.

The imported E-Tongue and E-Nose machines, costing approximately Rs 3.5 crore, are likely to arrive by May. These sophisticated devices are designed to electronically replicate human taste and smell senses, enabling highly sensitive detection of impurities or quality degradation in food products.

According to officials, the technology will play a key role in preventing adulteration and ensuring that only high-quality ghee is used in the preparation of the iconic Tirupati Laddu.

Wider Testing of Raw Materials

The new laboratory will conduct comprehensive testing of nearly 60 varieties of raw materials used in preparing “Srivari Prasadam,” including ghee, almonds, cashew nuts, peanuts, raisins, cardamom, turmeric and sugar.

Testing will be carried out across microbiology and chemistry departments to identify pesticide residues, heavy metals, insect contamination and traces of antibiotics. The facility is expected to significantly enhance food safety standards at the temple.

Government’s Stand on Adulteration Concerns

Expressing concern over allegations of large-scale supply of adulterated ghee during the previous YSRCP regime, the Health Minister said the current government is committed to preventing any recurrence of such incidents.

With the introduction of advanced detection systems and modern laboratory infrastructure, authorities aim to restore confidence and ensure uncompromised quality in the preparation of one of India’s most revered temple offerings.
