Sonbhadra: A tragic landslide in a clay mine in the Kirwani forest area under the Myorpur police station limits of Sonbhadra claimed the lives of three women on Monday, while two remain missing. Rescue operations are ongoing amid scenes of panic and grief.
According to officials, six women had gone to the forest area to extract clay when the soil of a mine-like pit suddenly collapsed, burying them underneath. The incident occurred so abruptly that the women had no time to escape.
So far, the bodies of three women have been recovered from the debris. Two others were rescued safely and shifted to a nearby hospital for first aid. The search is still underway for the remaining missing women, who are feared to be trapped under the rubble.
Police and administrative officials, including the SDM and CO, rushed to the spot after receiving information about the accident. Rescue and relief operations are being carried out with the help of a JCB machine to remove the debris swiftly.
The area has been cordoned off by police, and ambulances along with medical teams have been deployed to provide immediate assistance. Authorities said their top priority is to locate and rescue the missing women as quickly as possible.
The incident has cast a pall of mourning over the village. Distraught family members and villagers gathered at the site as news of the tragedy spread.
The administration has ordered a detailed inquiry into the incident. Officials stated that if any negligence is found, strict action will be taken against those responsible. Meanwhile, rescue efforts continue at the site.
