Bangladesh former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina
Dhaka: A Bangladeshi court on Monday sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to 10 years in prison after convicting her in two corruption cases linked to alleged irregularities in land allotment under the Rajuk New Town project near Dhaka.
Illegal land allocation allegations
The cases relate to the Rajuk New Town project in Purbachal, where it is alleged that two 10-katha plots were illegally allotted by misusing official authority. Prosecutors said the accused violated established rules and manipulated the land allocation process under the jurisdiction of the Capital Development Authority (Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha – Rajuk).
Family members also convicted
Sheikh Hasina is currently residing in India, having left Bangladesh following widespread protests on August 5 last year. The court had earlier declared her a fugitive in the case.
Cases filed by Anti-Corruption Commission
The two cases were filed by the Bangladesh Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), which accused the former prime minister and others of misuse of power and violation of land allocation rules.
