Tehran: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Friday that several countries have begun diplomatic efforts to mediate the growing conflict in West Asia, even as hostilities between Iran, the United States and Israel continue to intensify.

In a message shared on social media platform X, Pezeshkian confirmed that certain nations had initiated attempts to bring the warring sides to the negotiating table. However, he stressed that while Iran supports peace initiatives, it will not hesitate to defend its sovereignty.

“Some countries have initiated efforts for mediation,” Pezeshkian said. “We are committed to lasting peace in the region, but we will firmly protect the dignity and authority of our country.”

The Iranian leader also suggested that mediation efforts should focus on those he believes triggered the escalation. According to him, the parties responsible for provoking the conflict should be the primary audience of diplomatic interventions.

Escalating Military Strikes

The statement came as tensions in the region surged further. Israeli forces reportedly carried out fresh airstrikes on Iran’s capital, Tehran, with witnesses describing powerful explosions that shook residential areas.

Since the conflict erupted last week, the United States and Israel have launched multiple attacks targeting Iran’s military facilities, nuclear infrastructure and senior leadership positions. The strikes are part of a broader campaign aimed at weakening Tehran’s strategic capabilities.

Iran’s Retaliatory Response

In response, Iran has fired missiles and deployed drones toward Israeli targets and several countries in the Gulf region that host US military bases. Reports indicate that nations including QatarSaudi ArabiaKuwait, and Bahrain were among those affected.

Qatar confirmed that its air defenses intercepted a drone aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, a major facility hosting the forward headquarters of the US Central Command. Saudi authorities also reported intercepting ballistic missiles headed toward Sultan Air Base.

Diplomatic Efforts Continue

Despite the escalating military exchanges, international observers say mediation efforts could play a key role in preventing the conflict from spreading further across the region. Pezeshkian’s comments suggest Tehran may be open to diplomatic engagement, provided its security and national interests are respected.
