Geneva: Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi on Friday strongly criticised the United States and Israel over alleged attacks on civilian infrastructure in Iran, calling them “war crimes” and asserting that Tehran will continue to defend itself for as long as necessary.
Addressing a United Nations debate virtually, Araghchi condemned what he described as targeted strikes on civilian sites, particularly highlighting an attack on the Minab Elementary Girls’ School, which reportedly resulted in over 160 fatalities.
He warned that global silence over such incidents would only embolden further violations. “Indifference and silence in the face of injustices would bring no security and peace. It would invite more insecurity and rights violations,” he said, urging the international community to hold those responsible accountable.

The Iranian minister stressed that the credibility of the United Nations and the broader human rights framework is at stake. He called on member states to “call out the aggressors” and ensure accountability for what he termed “abhorrent crimes” against Iranian civilians.
Araghchi’s remarks come amid heightened tensions in the region, with diplomatic and military rhetoric intensifying between Tehran and its adversaries.
Reiterating Iran’s stance, Araghchi said the country has never sought conflict but would not hesitate to defend itself. “Iran has never sought war. Iranians are a peaceful and noble nation... yet they have demonstrated absolute resolve to defend themselves,” he stated.
He emphasized that Iran’s defensive measures would continue “as long as it is needed,” underscoring the country’s determination amid ongoing hostilities.

The Iranian Foreign Minister described the reported school strike as “deliberate and intentional,” alleging that it occurred despite the advanced military capabilities and surveillance systems available to the US and Israel.
The remarks are likely to further escalate diplomatic tensions, as the international community continues to monitor the evolving situation in West Asia closely.
