Ex-ISI chief Faiz Hameed sentenced to 14 years
New Delhi: In a major development in Pakistan, former Director General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Lieutenant General (Retired) Faiz Hameed, has been court-martialed.
He has been found guilty of serious charges, including leaking classified documents, abuse of power, and violating the Army Act. This is the first time in the country's history that a top ISI official has received such a punishment.
Faiz Hameed was considered a close confidant of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, and it is believed that the current government and Army Chief Asim Munir's administration are taking a tough stance against him.
The Pakistani Army issued a statement saying that Faiz Hameed abused his position and shared several confidential documents that were highly sensitive from a security perspective.
Furthermore, he was found guilty of activities such as improperly raiding the businesses of a private real estate businessman. Consequently, he was found guilty under the Pakistan Army Act and the Official Secrets Act.

In 2023, some documents were filed in the Supreme Court containing information about Faiz Hameed's actions. After a lengthy legal process, the military court sentenced him to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment.
Faiz Hameed was considered Imran Khan's most trusted officer. His name frequently surfaced in discussions about political interference and regime change. The ISPR (Inter-Services Public Relations) stated that during Imran Khan's tenure, Faiz Hameed engaged in activities that were entirely political in nature and caused undue harm to several individuals.
A few months after Imran Khan's government fell, Faiz Hameed took premature retirement. After his retirement, investigations were launched against him in several cases, and he was ultimately stripped of all his ranks, privileges, and positions.
The action against Faiz Hameed signals a significant shift in Pakistan's power structure. The army is now cracking down on all officers who have been involved in politics. This move is also seen as a sign of increasing pressure on Imran Khan's supporters. Many analysts believe that this decision marks the beginning of a new chapter in civil-military relations in Pakistan.
