Caracas: Panic erupted near the Presidential Palace in Caracas, Venezuela's capital, when indiscriminate gunfire erupted. The sounds of gunfire spread panic throughout several areas of the city. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the government immediately activated its air defense system.

According to reports, a suspicious drone was spotted flying over the Miraflores Palace in central Caracas. The army immediately swung into action, using anti-aircraft weapons to shoot it down. Security was further tightened around the entire area after the drone was shot down.

After neutralizing the drone, the Venezuelan army went on full alert. Armored vehicles, heavily armed soldiers, and security forces surrounded the Presidential Palace. Firing lasted for 45 minutes

According to the international news agency BNO News, heavy gunfire was heard in several areas of Caracas for about 45 minutes. Eyewitnesses say that sounds resembling drones or aircraft were also heard during the firing. There have also been reports of power outages in some areas.

Suspicion pointed towards the US

Following the incident, suspicion pointed towards the US because the US recently conducted an operation in Venezuela and detained ousted President Nicolas Maduro and his wife. However, the White House has categorically denied this. The White House stated that the US had no role in the firing and drone incident in Caracas.

Increased tensions in the political background

This incident occurred at a time when Delcy Rodriguez was sworn in as interim president following a change of power in Venezuela. Maduro was taken to the US and presented in court in New York City in drug-related cases, where he declared himself innocent.
