Global Peace Index 2025: Is Iceland still the most peaceful country in the world? Where do India and Pakistan stand?

The Global Peace Index 2025 ranks Iceland as the most peaceful country again. India stands at 115th, while conflict-ridden nations like Yemen and Sudan remain at the bottom.

New Delhi: The Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) has released the Global Peace Index 2025. This report states that Iceland has once again become the world's most peaceful and safe country. It is worth noting that Iceland has remained in the first place continuously since 2008.

What is the Global Peace Index?

The Global Peace Index (GPI) is an annual report that assesses which countries are how peaceful. In this report, countries are tested on many parameters, such as

• Rate of internal violence
• Crime situation
• International and domestic conflicts
• Military expenditure
• Relations with neighboring countries

Countries are ranked on the basis of all these points.

Why did Iceland get first place?

According to this report, there are many reasons for placing Iceland in the first place:

• The crime rate in the country is extremely low.
• There is no army.
• Mutual trust among people is very high.
• Social security and the governance system are strong.

Due to these characteristics, Iceland has again been declared the most peaceful country.

India has got the 115th rank out of 163 countries in this report, while Pakistan is at the 144th rank. This means that India has still not been able to make it to the list of the Top 100 Peaceful Countries.

According to the Global Peace Index 2025, some countries are extremely insecure and are ranked at the bottom:
