Kathmandu: Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has resigned from his post amid violent protests in a number of cities including Kathmandu over alleged corruption, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
PM Oli resignation followed widespread demands for his ouster over corruption allegations and heavy-handed governance.
The Army Chief of Nepal has warned the government that the violence can be controlled only after the resignation of PM Oli.
The Protests of Nepal Gen Z continued for a second day today on Tuesday, defying the curfew from the morning in some districts including Kathmandu Valley.
So far over 20 people, mostly young, have been killed during the protests across Nepal. More than 300 people including security personnel and media persons have been injured.
During the protest police fired rubber bullets and live ammunition at demonstrators who were demanding an end to corruption, nepotism, and misgovernance.
The protests were sparked by the government's ban on 26 social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Reddit on Friday.
The Gen Z youth movement, enraged by the government's decision and broader issues of corruption, rallied in large numbers across the country.
