Baloch rebels report intensified attacks across Balochistan
New Delhi: The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed that Operation Heroff – Phase 2 is continuing across multiple parts of Balochistan, describing it as one of its most extensive offensives in recent years.
According to the group, the coordinated operation took over 40 hours to execute and targeted heavily fortified security installations.
In statements issued by BLA spokesperson Giyand Baloch, the outfit said its fighters carried out attacks in districts such as Kharan, Mastung, Turbat and Pasni, and briefly operated in areas of Quetta and Nushki, from where electronic equipment was allegedly seized.
Conflicting claims on casualties
The BLA claimed that more than 200 personnel from the Pakistan Army, police and Frontier Corps were killed during the attacks, with at least 17 captured alive. The group described these figures as conservative estimates, suggesting the actual toll could be higher.
However, these claims have not been independently verified. In contrast, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti stated that the violence resulted in the deaths of 17 law enforcement personnel and 31 civilians.
The rebel group also issued a warning, declaring that local officials and individuals supporting what it calls “occupying forces” would be treated as adversaries.
Security forces report militant losses
The Pakistani military, meanwhile, said that its counter-operations led to the killing of 92 militants on Saturday and 41 more on Friday. Acknowledging losses within its own ranks, the BLA said 18 of its fighters were killed during the operation.
According to the group, those killed included 11 fidayeen (suicide attackers) from the Majid Brigade, four fighters from the Shaheed Squad, and three members of the STOS unit.
The BLA also confirmed the involvement of a female attacker, stating that Asifa Mangal joined the Majid Brigade in October 2023 and volunteered for a suicide mission earlier this year.
